#MADEFOR: Discovering The Purpose Planted Inside Of YouExemplo
You probably decided to pick up this devotional because there’s a part of you that knows you’re made for something bigger, something beyond yourself. That part of you shouldn’t be ignored; you really were created by God to do something (or, more likely, some things) that no one else can do quite like you. While there is definitely more than one policeman, pastor, painter, or parent in the world, the abundance of a certain calling doesn’t diminish its uniqueness to your life. You, the handiwork of God, are the only YOU who can parent, paint, police and pastor as YOU can.
This is why, before we look at where we’re going, we have to understand where we come from. God through the Apostle Paul in Ephesians tells us that we are created in Christ Jesus, handmade to do good works. Good works aren’t limited to feeding the poor, counseling the hurting, or uniting the divided—although those works shouldn’t be ignored. Think of God, who is Creator, and how he called the World he created good. A good work for an architect may be to design and build a sturdy bridge; a good work for a teacher may be to teach a lesson in a way that engages her students. Each of these good works, these outward expressions of our identity, are waiting to happen—pre-ordained by God, waiting to be done by us, should we choose.
What we do does not define who we are. Today, ask God to reveal who you are and what makes you unique, and then ask Him to highlight “good works” that you’ve done in the past—those actions that made you feel like you were right where you were made to be, doing what you were made to do. They might be a signal that you’re close to your calling.
