Declutter Now! 30 Day DevotionalExemplo
What Are the Treasures of Your Heart?
Look around. What are you surrounded with? Do you have a television in every room, enough shoes to outfit an entire army, or more watches than there are days in the year?
We are not suggesting that indulging in luxury is wrong, but if this is your norm, ask yourself if your purchases are truly representative of what is most meaningful to your life. Is the bulk of your time, money, and energy going towards what matters most?
The treasures of our heart are often not found on store shelves, but our eyes are big and impulses can easily overtake our better judgment and deeper desires. We are all guilty from time to time and can stray from even the best of intentions, so it’s good form to periodically evaluate choices and goals.
How do we combat the satiation of the quick fix or spontaneous purchase?
With intentionality!
Develop a pattern of positive and genuine self-talk. Reflect on the true treasures of your heart. Is it in your stuff or the time spent with your spouse, games played with your kids, or people appreciative of the time and love you’ve invested in their lives? Is it in the work you carry out on behalf of God’s kingdom? Remind yourself that indulgence in one area generally reduces your resources in another.
What will you declutter? Excessive spending, guilt, wasted time, and distraction from what truly matters most.
