What Is God's Plan For Me? 7 Invitations To The Life You've Been Missing

Chosen for a Person, Not a Plan: An Invitation to Worship

Rejected again? If you’ve endured rejection by someone or for some opportunity, you understand those soul-crushing feelings of worthlessness and fear about your future. You just wish someone would choose you for something—a relationship, a school, a club, a job opportunity, a promotion, or an award. Even if you do find yourself picked for the person or experience you thought would finally make you happy, the longing to feel chosen for the next thing persists. Why is this? It’s because what you want most of all—what God designed you to truly need and find satisfaction in—is to know that He chose you to belong to Jesus.

God chose you.

He chose you by name for an incredible purpose: to belong to Jesus and to worship Him.

This purpose far exceeds any plan you might imagine for your life. No proposal, job offer, or award compares to the reality that you’ve been chosen for Christ in order to worship Him.

In Ephesians 1:4a, 6, we’re told that God “chose us [in Christ] before the creation of the world. . . to the praise of his glorious grace.” And in Colossians 1:15-17, we learn that all things in creation were made by Jesus and for Jesus.

We were made to enjoy Jesus as a living personality, a real presence in our lives, whom we worship as the goal of our lives. Worship can begin now as you respond with gratitude that God chose you for Jesus. You can begin now to think about the greatness, holiness, and perfection of God. In 1 Peter 2:9, we learn that God chose us “to declare the praises of him who brought us out of darkness and into his wonderful light.”

This first invitation to a chosen life—to worship Jesus—begins no matter where you are. Maybe your life plans have fallen apart. Maybe you’ve been ignored or rejected again. Instead of agonizing over not having a plan, think instead of a Person. It’s like the marriage ceremony: you commit your life to a person, not a plan. This relationship becomes available to you as you accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to pay for your sins and bring you into fellowship with God. As God’s chosen child, you can now trust that He provides for you, cares for you, and arranges your circumstances to bring blessing into your life.

You’ve got a Person. The plan comes second.

When you feel rejected and your life plans fall apart, know that God chose you for Jesus, to worship Him right where you are.
