The Song of Moses and the Lamb
Thoughts on the Passage
This passage in Revelation 15 is very short for a song! That is because it takes us back in the Word of God to many different songs where God is exalted and His righteousness is declared by His people and the nations. The Jewish believers knew these songs – they were taught them and they memorized them so they do not need them repeated here – they only need a short portion to know which song they should sing. So each of these short phrases brings them back to long passages that they would sing. I have included two verses from one of my favorite songs of Moses – the one found in Exodus 15:1-2. The song is much longer and you can look it up to find the whole song. Another song is found in Deuteronomy 32 – this a different song and talks about God’s justice, His judging of sin and His heart to forgive. There are other songs referenced here – they are found in the Psalms and Isaiah. These songs call the nations to fear Him and call all to come to His mountain to worship Him.
This passage is also talking about the song of the Lamb – Jesus. To the Jewish believer, these are the prophetic songs of the Messiah as well as the songs seen here in the book of Revelation. It is a special blending of the songs of the past given by God to His people and the new songs released about Jesus. When combined, they give this powerful climax to the victory of God’s people over the enemies that they face – the antichrist, the false prophet, the nations that rise against them and the peoples who abuse them because they serve Jesus. It is a declaration of victory over satan’s attempt to defeat God’s people and God’s purposes for mankind. In the end, we win!!
Prayer
Father, it is time to sing a song – Your song. It is time to sing the songs that You gave us to sing in such times. It is the song of Moses as they saw You destroy the Egyptian army. It is the song of Moses as he reminds Your people to come to You for forgiveness. It is the songs of David and Isaiah as they celebrate the Messiah and His victory over the nations. It is the song of the Lamb that heaven sings out when satan is defeated and heaven is opened for us. Yes, it is time to sing. Today, I ask for a heart to sing. Sing out the promises that You have given. Sing out the victory that is ours – even if I am not seeing it yet. Sing out the blessings that await Your children for living faithful lives. Sing, sing, sing… because You are worthy to receive all our praise. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

The world’s depiction of angels is nothing compared to what they REALLY are. In Plan 9 of Revelation, we see the amazing work that angels are tasked with by God and we come to understand that they are magnificent beings that have been assigned to help us. We see that even though we suffer now, we will be singing in the end. Why? Because God has given us victory – and it is a victory that is eternal.
