To Show the Very Nature of God

It always amazes me when people describe me as a brave woman. Actually, I have many verses about fear, confidence in God, and peace written in my diary. I pray them over and over again, especially during the long nights I spend alone with my kids when my husband goes on a trip for days or even weeks. I know my fear doesn't come from God. I know that that´s one of the schemes the enemy uses against me. I also know the only way I have to fight back is on my knees, wielding the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

When I read the verses for today, my heart eases and my fears diminish. Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God. He is the exact imprint of His nature. And He upholds the universe by the word of His power.

What do we learn about Jesus in these verses?

He is heir of all things - befitting His status as firstborn over all creation.

He made the world.

He is the brightness of His Father’s glory. Jesus is the “beam” of God’s glory; we have never seen the sun, only the rays of its light as they come to us. Likewise, we have never seen the Father, but we have seen Him through the “rays” of the Son.

He is the imprint of God. The idea implies an exact likeness as made by a stamp.

He is the One upholding all things by the Word of His power. He is not passively holding something up but actively sustaining it. He has it all together. He has everything under control, visible or invisible.

Dear Father, I can´t help but praise You every time I read Your Word. There is nothing that escapes Your control. Everything that happens in my life passes through Your hands before coming my way. Amen.

Mini challenge: Spend some time today in prayer. Pray for that thing, that person, that situation, that need that is worrying you right now. Read today´s verses again and take heart, knowing that God is in control.

Savior: The Promise Fulfilled

Christmas can be an overwhelming season. We try to feel the joy of the celebration, but our long to-do lists and packed schedules often leave us exhausted and we crawl to Christmas Eve trying to survive until the 26th. In the middle of our very busy days, it's easy to forget what we really celebrate at Christmas: We celebrate Jesus. We celebrate His coming.
