SACRED HOLIDAYS: A DEVOTIONAL LEADING UP TO CHRISTMASExemplo
DAY FIVE
I know you probably have very little time this week, but you will need to fight for this time and this space. Everything else is secondary to this sacred time. Whether it be using dry shampoo instead of showering, or simply waking up earlier, make your time with God the top priority in this week's schedule.
The beauty of our God is that He isn’t hiding or holding out on us.
Take note of what you learn about God’s presence from Psalm 139:7-12.
There isn’t a place you could go where God isn’t turning darkness into light.
Think of when you specifically feel like God is present, where you can feel His light shining. For me, it is outdoors. If I can get myself outside, or by a window with a beautiful view, then my faith begins to soar again. The things in my life that feel dark or unknown begin to lighten because I begin to see God for who He is. As we saw on Day 3, Romans 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
Read Ephesians 5:8-10 and note what your response should be to God’s light.
Our job is pretty simple: "Live as children of the light.” Though we are human and will make mistakes as we seek to live as children of the light, we must make every effort to walk as He did. We must fight to not only see and worship His light, but to also follow His light in our everyday habits and actions.
> Light your fourth candle.
Today I send you out with your fourth candle lit and with Psalm 145:18: “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”
This Christmas is different because you are different. You are a child of the Light. You are walking in the Light. Yes, you can still blast the holiday songs, binge on Hallmark movies, go crazy getting gifts, eat way too many sweets, and turn your home into Santa's Wonderland. However, this Christmas, for you, isn’t fixated on those things because you are choosing #LessChaosMoreJesus. There won't be a "so this is all?" feeling after the last gift is opened because it's not over; you are just getting started.
God is everywhere, and He has called you to walk in the Light and shine it everywhere you go.
