Wretched Saints - A 5 Day Journey To TruthExemplo
REPLACING FAULTY SENSORS: Cancel Out the Noise
Feeling worthless? God isn’t giving you that message. I don’t want to give you a list of Scriptures to counter this, though I could. The solution isn’t just to counterbalance the lies with a bigger helping of truth but to stop listening to the lies in the first place. After that, only the truth will remain, and the truth don’t leak.
Feeling ugly? God’s not telling you that. Where’s that message coming from?
Feeling stupid? Unlovable? Unaccepted? Vile? Broken? Second-rate?
It’s so crazy that we let Satan say these things to us. If you walked up and heard some punk bully saying these things (much less screaming them) to your child, you’d take pretty quick action. But our enemy is invisible, and he can make his voice sound just like our own. Worse, he says our own words back to us. Not the good ones, of course, but the ones that tear us down. So we go on letting them into our ears.
That’s why the solution isn’t to have someone else standing on the other side of you saying happy sunshine thoughts about God’s love for you. That’s just more noise, and as soon as you step away from the good messages, the bad ones are still there to bring you down again. The solution is to get rid of the bad messages coming into your ear.
Truth is the solution, but not truth that counters lies one-to-one. No, if you remove the lies, the truth will become evident, and it doesn’t need to be defended, reinforced, or kept fresh in your mind. It’s just reality.
Easy, right?
Not even close. As the old saying goes, “If it was easy, everyone would do it.”
Our ability to hold onto Scripture’s truth about us leaks out. Not because they’re not true anymore, but because
we haven’t removed the bully screaming in our other ear. It’s not a question of believing these things in our heart. It’s a question of hitting mute on the lies and then going on with life in the presence of only truth.
At this point, you may be tempted to think I am about to spout some psychobabble about the power of positive thinking, but I’m not. My goal is for you to see reality as it is, to replace the faulty sensor in your life, and to help you live life abundantly. After all, isn’t that what Jesus promised?
“I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.” (John 10:10)
Oh, for that to be true!
It is.
