The Daily Dose: 30 Days to a Healthy SoulExemplo
Be Pure
Matthew 5:8 "Blesses are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
Is purity realistic? To listen to popular culture today, the conclusion is clear: Purity is not realistic at all today. To hear the world according to Hollywood tell it, purity is undesirable and unhealthy. But as a board certified medical school graduate and a real doctor, let me assure you that purity is in fact good for your health.
Purity has never caused anyone to die or land in the hospital, even for a short visit. Purity, it turns out, is not bad for your body nor for your soul. In fact, according to God’s Word, purity is the way to happiness. In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul reminds us that purity is God’s will for us. God does have a plan for us whether we’re single or married, and it is to pursue purity.
So forget about Hollywood and forget about popular culture. The key to peace and joy and freedom is simpler than we’ve made it. Flee sexual immorality. Choose holiness. Love God and honor Him. And remember that God never asks us to do anything He won’t give us the ability to carry out. He’s our good, good Father.
But do you want to know the best promise for those of us who will intentionally pursue purity starting in our hearts? The promise that Jesus makes in the beatitudes is that we will see God. Doesn't that sound like a lifestyle worth pursuing?
Questions:
What's keeping you from living a pure life? Are there some things in your life that you must resolve to cut off in order to pursue purity?
