What’s Standing In Your Way?

“And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? Am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.” 1 Samuel 17:8-9 KJV

Notice Goliath’s words in 1 Samuel 17:9 KJV, “...If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.” Goliath was sent to enslave the children of Israel. Goliath’s mission was revealed in his words, “...but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.”

First, Goliath wants to amplify himself and make your seemingly insurmountable problem bigger than what it really is. Goliath wants to oppress you and to prevail against you. That bill isn’t too big, that problem isn’t too large, that circumstance isn’t insurmountable; you can overcome and conquer all things through Christ. There is an answer. Let God lead you and guide your hands to conquer and to crush Goliath. Ask God for wisdom, and He is faithful to give you innovative strategies to destroy the enemy and to solve that problem.

Second, Goliath wants to kill you, literally and figuratively. In John 10:10 KJV, Christ states, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” The enemy wants to kill your destiny, steal your harvest, and destroy your purpose. Goliath was not only sent to kill and to destroy the armies of Israel, but he was also sent to enslave them for generations as well.

Which brings us to the third and final objective of Goliath, which is to enslave. Whether it’s through addiction, poverty, depression, perversion or rejection, Goliath desires to keep your family bound for generations. Whatever problem you’re facing, Goliath’s goal is to keep you bound and to impede your family’s growth and progress. Your family is not a slave to addiction, poverty, depression, perversion or rejection. Choose to kill Goliath and cut off his head.

What Goliaths are still alive and plaguing your family’s lineage? What Goliaths have you intentionally kept alive? What Goliaths have you decided not to kill? Close every door that’s open to sin. What problems have been tormenting and taunting your family for generations? Is it poverty? Is it addiction? Perversion? Choose to kill Goliath and cut off his head. Kill it at the source.

You are the giant killer of your generation. Goliath has no power or authority to rule and to lord in any area of your life. You choose who you will serve. Goliath or God. “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 KJV
