Unlocking The Heart Of The ArtistExemplo
Silencing The Inner Critic
Now that you have exposed the lies of the enemy in your own mind, it is time to learn how to silence the voice of the inner critic by comparing those lies to the truth of God’s Word. At a conference recently, I heard a prominent Christian leader say: “I can’t afford to have thoughts in my head that are not in God’s.” And neither can you.
Have you ever asked God what he says about you? If not, ask Him right now. Ask Him to reveal God’s truth about who you are and who He designed you to me. See, the more His truth is established in you, the less of an opportunity the enemy has to gain a foothold in your belief system.
You can’t do things like you have always done them and expect different results. If you want to see real Holy Spirit transformation in your life, you have to change your thinking. You must begin to believe and internalize what the Father says about you!
Take just a second and read some of these verses from today’s scripture selections in God’s Word. His Word is true and will set you free from the lies of the enemy. As you read these scriptures, make them personal and re-write them as affirmations in your journal that you can refer to day after day as you re-align your thoughts with God’s Word. For example, after reading Philippians 4:19, your affirmation may sound something like this: “Father thank You that You have promised to supply all my needs according to Your riches in Glory in Christ Jesus. Thank You that I have need of nothing. You are my provider and source of never-ending abundance in every area of my life. I rest in this knowledge today and knowing that You love me.”
Over time, as you replace the voice of the enemy, you’ll begin to recognize and celebrate the voice of the Lord as the dominant voice in your life. As this happens, your choices, feelings and experiences will change, aligning with God’s design for your life.
As we end this devotion today, realize that if significant woundedness or trauma has caused false beliefs to take hold in your life, deeper personal ministry or the help of a caring Christian friend, pastor or mentor may be necessary. Don’t freak out about this. If you are like me you don’t want to share your “stuff” with anyone, but trust me, and trust God. Real healing comes in the context of community – safe community – where you can share your faults and your junk, and take hold of the freedom that is yours in Christ. Whether it’s at church, your small group, in a professional setting or online community like our Created to Thrive Artist Mentoring Program, God wants to set you free!
