Jehovah MekadeshExemplo
The benefit of sanctification is that we have the privilege of experiencing the presence of God in our lives (Hebrews 12:14), as well as receiving eternal life.
God’s work of sanctifying His people is directed toward one of the ultimate goals of experiencing the blessing of His presence:
“I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people” (Leviticus 26:12).
The writer of the letter to the Hebrews challenged all Christians to
“Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
As we consecrate all of our lives to God and allow God to make us holy, we are
“Being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5).
Once upon a time there was a young girl who was given a lollipop. As other children rushed around her, she quickly opened up the wrapper of the lollipop and licked it, setting it apart (or “sanctifying it”) as her own lollipop. However, the real enjoyment was not just in the first lick that proclaimed ownership of the lollipop but also in the slowly dissolving sweetness that came from continually sucking on it.
In a similar way, as we believers consecrate ourselves more and more to experience God’s ongoing work of sanctification, we will experience the sweet blessing of God’s holy, abiding presence in our lives. In so doing, God will become our God and we will become His people, and we will learn to call Him Jehovah Mekadesh—the Lord who Sanctifies.
