GideonExemplo
Our Unique Calling
You and I are a part of the divine story of redemption. Even as God empowered [biblical characters] to do unique things on His behalf in their generation, so you and I, as a part of His Church, have been commissioned to rise up in our own way to serve His purposes in our generation.
One reason I believe the Lord led me to Gideon’s story and has now brought us into this study together is to remind us of the significance of His unique calling. As mothers to our children, as employees in the workplace, as part of His body in our local church, or as influencers in our communities, God has deliberately positioned each of us to be His representative, beckoning our ailing culture to Him—one person at a time.
Yes, our calling will look different from Moses’ and Gideon’s. We will probably not be leading pilgrims out of bondage or troops into battle. But no matter what God’s plan looks like in our lives, His hand is on us to wage war against the enemy within our spheres of influence.
The most important way God has reminded me to do this is through rearing my children. I’m convinced that God lets me witness their cute, comical lives to give me good material in my teaching. But without a doubt, outside of my relationship with the Lord and my husband, my sons are my highest priority, and I have been commissioned by God to be their mother.
Being a parent may seem like a commonplace human relationship, but I will not be lulled into downplaying it as ordinary. My role as a mom is a deliberate strategy initiated by God to rear young boys into godly men. And I am resolved to fulfill this calling—to be for them what God needs me to be during this critical stage in their lives.
Your assignment may look different from mine, but neither takes second place to that of Abraham, Moses, Deborah, or Gideon. God will empower us to complete His work, multiplying our simple efforts to achieve maximum results. Wherever we feel too weak to fulfill our calling, our ever-redeeming God will make us strong!

When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think about his 300 soldiers or a fleece spread beneath the evening sky. But Gideon's story is so much bigger than that. This is a story about God and His people—His love for them, as well as His strength operating in spite of, even through, their weakness.
