How To Be A Christian At Your Work – Part 2 Of 2Exemplo

How To Be A Christian At Your Work – Part 2 Of 2

Dia 5 de 6

Today, we reach the end of our 5-letter guide to being a Christian at work – the word BLESS:

B =   Begin with prayer
L =   Listen & Look for opportunities
E =   Exercise obedience
S =   See everyone in God’s image
S =   Serve others

The last “S” in the word BLESS is the how-to-do-it part of being a Christian at work, telling us to “Serve others.”

Once again, this leads us to Jesus himself as our example.

Not only did Jesus see others as loved by God and created in His image; he also viewed his own role as that of servant rather than master (see Philippians 2:3-8).

You may go for a walk in the forest, along the sea, or up the mountains and claim a great spiritual experience of loving God.

You may attend church, pray with your family, participate in a small group, help fellow believers and claim that this is how you love and serve God.

That’s true, but to serve like Jesus did, you need to go further:  loving and serving your neighbor as well.

Remember the story of the Good Samaritan referenced in Part 1 of this study series? No matter what your job or role, the people you work with are very much your neighbor – to love and to serve.

This is true even if that “neighbor” is one who sabotages your work, speaks ill about you behind your back, or makes your work life difficult.

Not an easy task, is it?

The Bible has some really practical advice to help:

  1. Keep an eternal perspective. Don’t stress about worldly work issues, but rise above these. You’re at your work because God placed you there to touch the lives of others. Check Philippians 3:20.
  2. Be who God created you to be, not conformed to the culture of your work. Be the same person at work as you are at home, church, or with friends. Be authentic, not political. Check Romans 12:2
  3. Relationships are important, so invest in them. Do this for the sake of helping others and serving as the hands and feet of God, not for your own gain. Check Philippians 2:3-8 again.
  4. Get out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to approach others, especially when you feel a prompting to do so from God. Then trust His Holy Spirit for the right words at the right time. Check Luke 12:12.

Jesus was God in the flesh on earth, yet he stooped down to take on the job of servant, even washing his disciples’ dirty, smelly feet – including those of his betrayer Judas Iscariot! (see John 13:12-17)

Being asked to “Serve others” might be the most difficult of the 5 concepts contained in our guide word BLESS, but it is exactly where God wants to use you to reach others!

How can you BLESS others at your work?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I love you and want to honor you with my life.  Help me to hear your promptings and give me the insights, wisdom and courage to reach out and serve others as you want. For your glory, I pray. Amen.

QUESTIONS:

Have you served someone outside of your immediate job responsibilities lately?

Are there people you avoid at your work? What would happen if you went out of your way to talk with them, help them or just listen to them?
