Love God Greatly: Words MatterExemplo
My seven-year-son is quite a character. The other day, he asked my oldest son this question: “Do you love me?” Of course, he knew my oldest would tease him and he would answer “No.” My youngest then, replied, “Then you don´t love God. That's what dad said the other night. If you don´t love me, your brother, you can´t love God!” Match won. Checkmate.
Today's verses made me think of that episode. It's easy for us to use our words to praise God and thank Him for all the wonderful things He does in our lives. But how do we use our words when we talk to other people? Do we have the same standard as when we talk to God?
To me, the key in these verses is remembering that people are made in the likeness of God. And that's how they deserve to be treated. Our mouth can praise God and curse people. How can we do that? Let's think about it. Would I tell God the same things I tell others? If the answer is “no,” then it's time to change the way we speak.
Oh Lord, I praise You and worship You. I want to honor You and the people You created with the words I say. Help me to see them the way that You do, with love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
