The War WithinExemplo
Do Not Give Him Room
Though the battle wages on within, I have good news for you – you win! The victory is ours in Christ. We have only to take our stand in him, hold on to his words in faith, and know he never fails. Yes, there is a war, and yes, we do have an enemy of our souls. But, he is not equal to God in any way, shape, or form. He is a created being that has been defeated by Jesus and now only walks around like a roaring lion.
The Apostle Peter describes him this way, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV). While the enemy is a defeated foe, it does not stop him from trying to lure and attack God’s people. He has nothing else to do with his time because he knows his end is sure. But, the Apostle Peter still warns us to be mindful of him because he will stop at nothing to get his way.
You must remember the power of the Holy Spirit living in you is greater than the enemy roaring like a lion. He will not gain power over you unless you give him room and unless you are not sober of mind and alert. The enemy looks for loopholes, cracks and little openings in our lives. He will force his way in to wreak havoc. Remember he is a thief, and he will keep watch for an opportunity to break in.
It is imperative in this war within that we continue to keep our minds on the thoughts and plans God has for us. We must meditate on the promises of God continually to recognize the lies of the enemy when they arise. According to Paul in Ephesians chapter four, he lists things that give the enemy a foothold:
· Speaking lies about others
· Sinning when angry
· Unwholesome talk
· Grieving the Holy Spirit
· Bitterness
· Rage and anger
· Brawling, slander, and malice
· Lack of compassion
· Unforgiveness
As believers, when we do not renew our minds with the truth of God’s word, when we allow these things listed to seep in, we will lose the battle. Today, you have the power of the Holy Spirit living in you. Why not ask him to lead you to the truth you need so you can close the gaps. Forgive, speak well of others, walk away from an argument, and show compassion to others. This is the way you will continue to stand in victory. Don’t give in to the enemy's ploys, because your weapons are greater!
Should you fear the enemy? The answer is NO – he is a created being and NOT God’s equal!
“When we learn how to battle with the sword of the Spirit, with its two edges of the Word and God's Holy Spirit, the enemy will flee before us.” ― Linda Evans Shepherd
