Dwell Christmas by David BinionExemplo
“Oh come saint or sinner
His love knows no limits
Jesus is born in Bethlehem’
Oh come join the heavens
Sing worship, sing praises
Jesus is born in Bethlehem”
- Let Us Adore, David Binion & Mitch Wong
It’s the month of December, a time universally renowned as a month of cheer and celebration. While the reasons might change from person to person, to talk about December as Christians in the same sentence as “celebration” can only mean one thing above all else; the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. God became a man, sent to Earth to ultimately save us all from our own natures.
I can think of no greater reason to celebrate than that. It is the resounding “why” for all good things in our lives, the foundation of all we do as believers; it is the very reason we worship. Without that fateful day, when the Virgin Mary gave birth to the Son of God, one who is both human and God made flesh, life would be unrecognizable from what we see today. Without Him, we would have had nothing to satiate our hunger for the more of God; trillions of people would be unable to ever have an opportunity to know the Lord as their Savior and to build the sort of personal relationship with Him on which our Christianity is centered. That, certainly, would be a tragedy.
So, this December, as the Christmas holiday draws closer, let’s make sure in our celebrations and merrymaking to remember the reason it’s all possible: the birth of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ.
