Strengthen Your FaithExemplo
Your Words Have Power
Words are powerful.
Words are potent.
Words have the potential to build up or to tear down.
I wonder what words you are allowing to be spoken over you at this time. What voices are framing your thinking and shaping your world? What words are tumbling from your own lips? What words are you speaking to your children or to others around you? What negative words of defeat do you spew into your own soul? Are your words a well of life or a sewer of defeat?
The following verses are from Proverbs 10 and each one helps us to understand the type of words we should endeavour to speak:
v11 “The mouth of the righteous is a well of life...”
v13 “Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding...”
v19 “In the multitude of words sin is not lacking; But he who restrains his lips is wise.”
v20 “The tongue of the righteous is choice silver...”
v21 “The lips of the righteous feed many…”
v31 “The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom…”
v32 “The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable...”
So, if those life-giving verses were a test, and you were assessing the tone of your own voice, how would you score?
In times like these, it’s imperative that you take charge of the words you speak and base your confession on God’s Word. In Hebrews 3:1, Jesus is described as the high priest of our confession. The Greek word for confession in this verse is Homologia, which means “the same word as”. To put it plainly, what we profess should align with the words of Jesus.
My encouragement, particularly in this presently trying time, is for you to take even more care to speak out the promises that are yours through Jesus Christ. Peace is yours. Grace is yours. Salvation is yours. Speak those promises over your loved ones. Fill the atmosphere with the sound of your praise. Speak life to all those around you and speak hope into your own soul.
Stay in faith, the BEST is yet to come.
