Find the Door
Rebekah Trittipoe
Ready:
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
Set:
Doors are such common objects and we take them for granted. But doors allow entry and exits. Doors provide protection from intruders. Doors signal significance, hope, and new opportunities.
Ancient cities such as Jerusalem regained protection from outsiders when her gates were reconstructed. The prophet Hosea speaks of a valley being the “door of hope.” The Apostle Paul was glad to have a “great door for effective work” opened for him on more than one occasion. Doors, whether literal or figurative, are unavoidable.
“When you hit the wall, look for the door!” Before every race, Coach T challenged her distance runners with that imagery. Somewhere between the starting gun and the finish line, she knew her runners would inevitably hit the proverbial “wall” if they ran with integrity, honor, and strength. But how would they respond? Back off or seek to find the door that exists in every wall?
When suffering becomes nearly unbearable, it’s only the most courageous runner who seeks the allusive door. But for the one who finds and flings open that door, there awaits a level of performance once thought impossible.
Be brave. If God has placed a wall in your life, He has surely made a door. Find the door and blast through it. See God do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20).
Go:
1. Give an example of opening an actual door when you didn’t know what was the other side. What emotions did you feel?
2. Can you describe a time when God prepared a door for you? Did you go through it? If so, what was the basis for trust?
Workout:
- Exodus 12:22
- Matthew 7:8
- 1 Corinthians 16:9
- 2 Corinthians 2:12
- Colossians 4:3
Overtime:
“Father God, give me the courage to find and open Your door when my situation seems impossible.”
