From Dirty to Worthy

God uses all circumstances for His purposes and glory. David was one of the greatest men of God in the Bible. He was also one of the worst sinners. David wrote most of the poems in the Old Testament book of Psalms. In Psalm 139:16, he says this about God: “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” All the days. Not just our best days but also our worst days. Even though we may feel unworthy, we have to believe that nothing we’ve done can change the reality that God created us out of His deep love.

You are not dirty. You are worthy. David was a great king, but he was also a murderer and adulterer. And yet the Bible calls him a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). David came up to God in the midst of his mess, and God wanted him to come just as he was.

Before I welcomed God’s love into my life, I worried a lot about death. I fretted over what I needed to do to avoid going to hell. I had no idea where to start. What “fix” will make God love me enough to bring me to heaven? Which rules should I follow? How often do I need to go to church?

It wasn’t until I heard the good news of Jesus Christ stated simply that I learned the process was itself quite simple: I just had to repent (aka be genuinely remorseful about my sins and joyfully turn away from my mess)! Repent in order to receive God’s best for my life. Declare Jesus as Lord and believe God brought Him back from the dead. Boom! Nothing more and nothing less.

The gospel is a precious gem to be cherished not because I had to “Find Jesus” but because “Jesus found me.”

The Bible says that if we sincerely believe the good news of Jesus, we will be saved from eternal separation from God and will enjoy being forever united with the God of the universe.

Maybe this is the first time you’re hearing the good news. Or maybe you’ve heard it before but thought it too good to be true. Either way, you’re hearing it now and have the opportunity to respond in faith. Receive God’s free gift, come just as you are, and be made into who you were meant to be.

Open with a prayer inviting God into your life exactly where you are.
