Empower Others

One thing that really set the ministry of Jesus apart from all other religious establishments of the day was how Jesus chose a group of ordinary men and empowered them immediately to own the ministry. Think about it.

Jesus chose passionate followers, not perfect people. He chose everyday people, not religious leaders. He chose those who were teachable and hungry, not scholars and experts. He chose men ready to serve, not proven leaders. He looked places no one else looked. He saw things in people no one else saw, and He empowered them to do ministry.

These leaders were given clear vision that was bigger than themselves. They were called to sacrifice what they loved for what they loved even more. They were empowered early. They learned in the heat of the game—they didn’t sit on the sidelines and watch. They were expected to do the same and empower others along the way.

This could be your most important job as a church planter: to empower others at the very beginning and throughout the life of your church. We often feel like we need to be in control, but by allowing others to lead, you create contributors to the church not consumers. This changes everything, and truly builds the church the way it was intended to function!

As you read about how Jesus chose, interacted, and empowered His disciples, be encouraged to do the same.
