Uncomplicated

Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.Hebrews 4:16

“No special words or formulas could ever win you over for your love is undeserved.” – Uncomplicated, Young & Free.

There’s nothing quite like the ease you feel when you are around the type of friend where you can come as you are. You dress in your most comfortable clothes and feel comfortable to simply be you. There is no need to impress or second-guess because they love you for you.

When we know we can simply come as we are to the people in our lives, it makes way for real relationship to happen. It is easy to come to a friend like that and love a friend like that.

God has extended relationship to us through His Son Jesus. However, the wall that can so easily stop us from coming to Jesus is the shame we feel, the thoughts we think and the uncertainty we wrestle with. We tend to think of Him as an acquaintance who might tolerate our mess rather than as a true friend who will love us through our mess. But Jesus doesn’t just merely tolerate us coming to Him in our mess, but He actually encourages us to come and then pours out his love on us.

In Hebrews 4:16 the Bible tells us to approach God with confidence. God wants us to come to Him, as our most messy, authentic selves. He has made himself accessible to us in an uncomplicated way. The next step is to approach God in prayer with simple words as honestly as we can. In confidence, we can know that we are loved by God and always will be.

Self-reflection questions:

  1. What feelings stop me from coming to God?
  2. What thoughts do I need to surrender to God today?
  3. Just as God has expressed that He loves me, how can I express to God today that I love Him?

To-do list:

Pray a simple prayer such as, “Jesus, I need you” or “Jesus, have your way in me” today and allow His grace to help you.
