God Fights For YouExemplo
GIDEON
Conflicts are an unavoidable, everyday part of life. How we manage to resolve them defines our character and walk of faith. Fortunately, we are not left to struggle alone. We can find solace in the fact that God establishes our cause and defends us from adversity.
Throughout the Scriptures, we find numerous instances of the Almighty fighting on behalf of His people. One of the most compelling examples of this involves an unlikely warrior leading the outnumbered army of Israel into a confrontation with one of its oppressors, the Midianites.
Israel had endured seven years of suffering at the hands of the Midianites (whose name means strife), because of their disobedience to God. They dreadfully witnessed their crops and cattle being destroyed, all the while hiding in caves in the mountains. These were desperate times, but Yahweh was orchestrating a strategy to deliver them once again. He set His eyes on one man to lead the way.
In the Book of Judges, chapter 6, we are introduced to Gideon, who is seen hiding from the enemy. An angel appears to him with a word of encouragement, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!” What a powerful statement! Despite Gideon’s reservations, God assures him, “I will be with you.” In times of need, always remember that God has the power to shift things in one’s favor!
Gideon proceeds to gather 32,000 men for a battle against Midian. There was only one problem: God tells him he has too many people, and an instruction follows, “whoever is afraid, let him turn around at once.” The army is quickly reduced to 10,000 brave soldiers. Soon after, it is reduced again to just 300! And this condensed group carries out one of the boldest military strategies in all of history! They storm the vast camp of Midian by night, blowing their trumpets, breaking pitchers with torches inside, and yelling at the top of their lungs, “the sword of the LORD and of Gideon!” This surprise frightens the men of Midian into fighting their own in confusion, eventually granting Israel the victory!
It does not take thousands of people to make an impact. One obedient heart in the hands of God is powerful enough to make a difference. His ability is limitless, and His power is perfected in our weakness! God fights for you!
