Isaiah Prophecy

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah’s prophecy of Jesus came nearly 700 years before Jesus' birth. Isaiah tells us that this child will be the one to save us. He will be born of a virgin. He would be called the “wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting father and prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6 NIV).”

This is the child, the one who will bring light into the darkness. The one that will lead many to know Him. This is the child that Israel long awaited for. The child that one day will grow up to be nailed on the cross. He, fully man, and fully God, would come to save us.

When we look at Isaiah 9, we see an emphasis on the word “joy.” It appears several times throughout the chapter. Why is that? Because this was joyful news. The one who comes and saves is the most joyful news ever. He’s the one that will defeat darkness forever and bring justice and peace back to us.

You’re probably wondering how you have joy in this time of season? We faced one of the most fierce elections, our country is strongly divided, protests are happening daily and so many other things. It is hard to see the joy in the darkness and in the bad. But we have to remember that our joy and our hope is not of this world, but in Jesus.

Presidents come and go. Wars come and go. Protests come and go. But Jesus is eternal. He’s the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
