Revelation Benediction: Devotions From Time Of GraceExemplo
Revelation benediction #3: Stay alert!
I’m a little paranoid when I’m on the road and have an early business meeting. If I forget to bring my personal alarm clock, I will try to set the alarm on the contraption next to the bed, but to be safe I will have the front desk give me a wake-up call as well. I don’t want to miss the meeting.
Jesus will return to earth without warning. Of all the metaphors that he might have chosen, are you surprised that he chose that of a thief? You get the point--thieves have the nasty habit of breaking and entering when you least expect it. They always seem to catch you by surprise. Jesus’ return is going to catch a lot of people by surprise. They will be thinking that they have plenty of time to get their spiritual act together. They will think that they will see the signs of the end time long in advance and have plenty of time to repent. They will think that they can stall God’s judgment day legal proceedings the way they have been working the legal system here on earth.
Wake up! Stay alert! “Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed” (Revelation 16:15).
On judgment day, you will either be found wearing the robes of Christ’s holiness or you will be found naked.
