Uncommen: DistractedExemplo
Adam, Where Art Thou?
Genesis 2: 15-17 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, "You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."
Eve takes all of the heat in conversations when it comes to eating the forbidden fruit, but I'm here to say, "this is on you, Adam!" In our scripture verse, we clearly see that before God created Eve, He put Adam in the Garden to "work it and keep it." Adam knew full well that the tree that Eve was heading for was off-limits.
Genesis 3 6:b she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
Adam, you're busted!
It wasn't like Adam was over on the other side of the Garden, breaking up a fight between the kangaroos. He was so close to Eve that she was able to hand him the fruit to eat. So why didn't he try to stop her?
Distracted (unable to concentrate because one's mind is preoccupied).
What was Adam distracted by? Who knows. It may have been something like the beauty of the Garden, those kangaroos, or he may have been thinking about Eve. Whatever it was, he took his eyes off supporting his soulmate. But he had the awareness to take the fruit and eat it as well.
How often do we take our eyes off the main thing only to find out we could have stopped something terrible from happening?
God gave Adam a calling to work and keep the Garden. God has given us all a calling to spread the Gospel to all the world. Let us not take our eyes off the main thing to find that we could have stopped someone from going to Hell.
Truth & Grace
There were consequences for Adam and Eve when they disobeyed God. We, too, have to be mindful of our disobedience and know that we can impact our own lives and others.
