The Power of Christ: Declaring His Authority Over Your Life

The Authority of Christ

Jesus left this earth and gave us His authority. In the world, people are appointed to be another person’s power of attorney. They are given the authority to make decisions on behalf of the person. They have authority over that person’s bank accounts, medical decisions, life, and even death. Jesus gave us this kind of authority when He left earth and went to heaven. You could say Jesus gave us His power of attorney. “He called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease” (Matt. 10:1).

He consistently modeled for us how to take authority. He spoke into the spiritual realm, and a natural result happened. Our authority comes through the name of Jesus. “Therefore God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth” (Phil. 2:9–10). When we ask by faith, in His name and according to the will of the Father, we will see the fruit of the authority we release. “I will do whatever you ask in My name, that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13).

We have the Spirit of God inside to lead and empower us. Now we need to learn our authority in Christ and then release it. Removing obstacles such as doubt and unbelief is critical in this process.

Under the leading of the Holy Spirit, say whatever you command or decree followed by, “In the name of Jesus.” Paul told us in Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, our Messiah. In His name nothing is impossible, and everything is possible.

“Peter said, ‘Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk’” (Acts 3:6, NKJV). Peter gave a simple command, “Rise up and walk,” and a man who couldn’t walk was healed. What if Christians went around with authority and faith, made simple commands, and believed in faith that they and others would receive what is being decreed into the spiritual atmosphere? How much different would our world be?
