DAY THREE: Breaking Toxic Cycles - THE THIEF OF FORWARD

Yesterday we discussed our ability to learn from, not constantly revisit, pains of the past. In order to do that, we must break toxic cycles. Revisiting your past is not just replaying old memories in your mind. It’s dissecting how unhealthy thoughts show up in our actions and mirror past experiences we should’ve mastered.

When we give ourselves permission and space to heal from the thorns of our past, we gain clarity and revelation of the thoughts and patterns that once held us bound. Breaking toxic cycles can be difficult and it takes practice to get to the place of experiencing perpetual freedom from its stronghold. When we pray and see our trauma for what it is, we’re asking God to show us a new way. The new way won’t just show up as two-day Amazon prime shipping. The new way emerges as we acknowledge that toxicity is within us and learn to forgive ourselves for what God has already forgiven. It’s not just enough to receive forgiveness if we’re not going to change our ways. Don’t just pray about it. Sis, choose to resist it, and act on the choice! Embody what you pray and have faith that your commitment to change will force the chain to break.

Moment of Reflection: God has given us the power and the strategy to overcome toxic cycles. It begins with having Faith in God, speaking against the mountains and removing temptation. Breaking toxic cycles isn’t this deep, dark, and mysterious equation. It’s us aligning with God’s word and walking out His truth.

Prayer: God, thank you for removing the weight of unforgiveness. Reveal any remaining unforgiveness dwelling in me that I have for myself and others. I understand that you have given me the authority to move mountains, but I ask that you would first reveal my heart to me. I lay my heart at the altar of your feet. Heal my brokenness. Give me your peace in exchange for my surrender. Amen.
