Uncommen: House DividedExemplo
That House Will Not Be Able To Stand
Mark 3:25 - "And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand."
Various opinions, beliefs, and viewpoints divide a household. Most are small, some are large. What about when one person in a relationship is a Christian, and the other is not?
Having the privilege of serving on the Uncommen team, I get a chance to see patterns in people. Divorce is the number one issue when people reach out to us for support.
The reasons vary:
- Infidelity
- Growing apart
- Work / Life balance
- Poor communications
- Money
- Sex
Oftentimes, however, the reason not listed by these people is the incompatibility of their marriage; their heart condition. Are both of these people believers in Christ Jesus?
As our focus verse states in Mark, "And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand." While God ordained the institution of marriage, marriage can still be difficult. It's a billion times harder if you both are not believers. You both will have different values, priorities, and perspectives.
If you are single...
Take heart, my brothers and sisters, as you will meet someone when the time is right. In the meantime, I would suggest praying about that encounter. Pray for that person to be the Godly mate that has been set aside for you.
If you are dating...
If you are dating, I would highly suggest you have a conversation about your faith with each other. Discuss what is important to you and how you see your marriage working. Don't just share your viewpoint; listen to the other person as well.
If you are married...
If you find yourself in the middle of a divided house, it's time to start praying for your spouse. Open the lines of communication and possibly begin a marriage study. Getting on the same page with your faith will help your marriage immensely.
If you are divorced...
If you are already divorced, take some time to pray with God about your situation. God is the only one who can help.
Uncommen Questions:
Are you and your spouse/soon-to-be spouse both believers?
Do you communicate differences through the love of Jesus?
Uncommen Challenge:
I challenge you and me to reexamine our relationship with Jesus and our spouse and make sure they are where they need to be.
