Week 4 - Day 2

Extravagant Faith | Read

Judas was one of the 12 disciples. When he witnessed this extravagant act of worship, he couldn't process it. There’s something about this moment that solidifies his reservations about Jesus. Judas decides that Jesus is a fraud, and he makes the decision to go to the religious leaders and betray him. It’s a sobering picture - Judas struggles to understand the significance of Jesus. Even though he’s one of the men who has seen everything Jesus has done, he cannot grasp who Jesus actually is.

When we discover a personal relationship with Jesus, it changes us, and we know that there is no one else like Him. Our response to God becomes whole-hearted and passionate. What we’ve received is worth an outrageous and unrestrained surrender of all that we are, but it shouldn’t surprise us when those around us don’t get it! Friends and family may not mind us becoming more spiritual, but when our faith starts to become sacrificial and extravagant, it’s not unusual for people to find it offensive and irrational. True faith will always include an element of unreserved worship.

Questions | Reflect & Respond

What do I give the most worth to in my daily life?

What is one practical way that I can honor who Jesus is to me?

Wholehearted Worship | Pray

Faith and worship go together. To worship is to give something worth - through our time, our energy, and our money. We worship the things we trust and the things we value. The woman worshipped Jesus with her wealth, she gave her perfume to show how much she valued Him. Her act of outrageous generosity gave worth to Jesus.

It would be good to take some time today to think about how you give worth to Jesus; think about how you can prioritize your relationship with Jesus. What can you ‘give’ that reflects a whole-hearted response to Jesus. What can you ‘give up’ that shows how much you trust Him. Discovering the privilege of worship is something we grow into as our faith matures. Prayer is a great way to worship. As you pray today, try and reflect on developing a more thankful and whole-hearted attitude.
