Jesus Gets His First Followers | Read

When Mark introduces Jesus and his life mission, he describes it as setting up the Kingdom of God. As we’ll see, this was the kind of language that Jesus used himself. Turns out a lot of people were attracted to this idea of something fresh and new. They were looking for someone who could transform their lives. The first people Jesus recruits, show us how enthusiastic people were for change.

Simon (we know him as Peter) and his brother Andrew, dropped everything to follow Jesus. James and John (also brothers) joined them straight away. Something about Jesus gave these experienced fishermen the confidence to walk away from their old life and start a journey with him. They had no idea what was ahead, but they were ready for something new.

A Conversation About Hope | Pray

When we’re young we imagine the future will be rich and fulfilling. But often the harsh realities of life can leave us disappointed and broken. Mark wants us to remember the deep things we’ve longed for, to wonder if maybe, just maybe, Jesus is exactly what we’ve always hoped for. So why don’t you talk to God about the things in your world that you are hoping to change?

Following Jesus is such good news because he can show us how to live the life that we’ve always imagined is possible. When we’re ready for something new, He meets us where we are and invites us into a life journey with Him - and because of that journey, our lives will never be the same again.
