I Can't Do Everything, but I Can Do EverythingExemplo
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
Many years ago as a kid, I dreamt about flying. I was convinced that I would be able to do it as a grown up.
Have you ever dreamt about having a super power?
I remember when I discovered Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength", I thought I would finally be able to accomplish this dream I always had. If I had an ignorant faith, I would have gotten up on the roof, reciting this verse out loud and I would have tried flying. But God, who is good, gave me a bit of wisdom!
As a Pastor, over the years I have heard so many people use this verse in the wrong way. I even remember a man that cheated on his wife and recited this verse to justify his actions.
Many times we want to copy and paste certain scriptures to justify our behaviour or our way of thinking, but the word of God calls us to renew our mind and to think as He thinks.
I would like for you to take a moment to think: what does this verse mean to you? What does it mean that you can do all this through Him?
I hope you agree with me when I say that the verse : "I can do all this through Him who gives me strength" doesn't mean that you can live however you want.
That's why I called this devotional: "I can't do everything, but everything I can do".
In the next days we will focus on this verse context and why Paul said those words. I have faith that you will end up encouraged, full of confidence and hope for the future.
Prayer: Father, I thank You because You always challenge us to renew our mind. I thank You because Your word is like a lamp that guides my feet. I ask that You help me to have a willing heart and to be open to what you want to teach me in the days to come. Amen.
