Daily Bible Reading – July 2021, God’s Word of FaithExemplo
July 25
Introduction
Paul reminds the Thessalonians that God wants them to be holy, which means treating one another with respect and avoiding immoral behavior. He exhorts them to live in a way that will earn them the respect of non-believers. Paul then begins to describe the Lord’s coming in response to his concern about the grief the Thessalonians were experiencing.
Today’s Scripture Reading
1 Thessalonians 4:1-18
Today’s Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:7
"God did not call us to live in immorality, but in holiness."
Reflect
How does Paul describe a life that is pleasing to God? What does a call to holiness (verse 7) mean to you? Paul describes the Lord’s coming (verses 13-18) in the same way that others throughout the Greek-speaking world described a great event, such as when a king made a formal appearance before the people. What are your thoughts when you read these verses?
Pray
Holy God, thank you for Paul’s encouraging words. Your Son, Jesus, died and rose again, and those who die believing in him will be with you always. This I believe and I claim this promise and thank and praise you. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who are grieving the death of loved ones
Tomorrow’s Reading
1 Thessalonians 5:1-28: Paul exhorts the Thessalonians to be ready for the Lord’s coming.
