The Lasso Way Exemplo
Recently, I began watching Ted Lasso. If you don’t know anything about the show, allow me a few sentences to explain it. It is based on a fictional American collegiate football coach who becomes a Premier League soccer manager. There are plenty of people more qualified to assume the role as new manager of AFC Richmond. But Ted was the one chosen.
All throughout Scripture, God calls insignificant, ordinary people to fulfill His purpose. People like Ted Lasso. There was nothing extraordinary about him, but he believed he was sent to do the job. He completely committed to doing it.
Several thousand years ago Jesus walked along the shore of the Sea of Galilee and called a group of improbable individuals to lead a new movement that we today call the Church. They were fishermen, not pastors or priests. They had no formal training, but Jesus called them, and they accepted.
Before Jesus called the disciples, Moses had an encounter with the Father. The story of Moses and the burning bush is possibly the most well-known story of God calling an unlikely individual to do great things. Moses pleaded with God and tried his best to argue himself out of it, but God persisted.
At first Moses didn’t believe. He felt unqualified. He struggled with public speaking. He used every excuse he could come up with, but God kept coming back to Moses with words of assurance. God promised to be with Moses. God promises to be with us. We must believe and trust in God’s faithfulness.
God calls each of us to build His Kingdom. God calls us to use the talents and gifts He has given us to build the Kingdom and to become better versions of ourselves. The question we must ask is, “Do we believe this?” Do we believe God wants to use us to build the Kingdom? You might feel like you are the least qualified and the most improbable person God could use to build His Kingdom. Rest assured you are not the first, nor will you be the last. In fact, you are in good company.
God wants to use you! Our journey together begins with believing and trusting in the God who calls us. As we will explore in this reading plan, we are called to live transformed lives. We are called to be people who are kind to others. We are called to forgive people who have wronged us. We are called to be people of hope.
I believe Ted can help us along this journey. God is calling you! Have the courage to follow that calling. I promise, it will be an incredible journey!
