Un-popular

God blesses those for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. -Matthew 5:10 (NLT)

Ever been singled out in a group? Ever felt like you were the least liked? Ever had to deal with being the last one to be added to the team? If you have, you're no stranger to the feelings that come with these scenarios. They're feelings of loneliness, persecution, and unpopularity.

When you decide to follow God, it can make you feel like the popularity or notoriety you once had faded away. And if you've never had it, it'll make you feel like you never will. That's okay. This walk isn't about being the popular one; it's about doing what's right.  Following Jesus triggers persecution, judgment, and slander to be attached to your name.

Persecution may rob you of popularity, but it can't rob you of the reward that awaits you in Heaven. The unpopular name belongs to people who leave indelible marks on the earth. It belongs to people who endure scrutiny for the sake of righteousness that God will be seen in the world through their deeds and actions. The good thing about having an unpopular name on the earth is found in Matthew 5, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake: For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

The next time you are overwhelmed by the weapons and attacks of outside forces, remember that there is a reward for being righteous. In a world full of people trying to fit in, be okay with being counted out. Your reward is far greater than any embrace the world can offer.

Meditation:

Matthew 5:11-12

Prayer:

Father, I thank You that following You has made me unpopular. You say in Your word that this type of persecution causes me to be blessed!... so I receive my blessings today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
