Mothers comfort their children. From newborn cries to scraped knees and bad dreams, mum is there to comfort and soothe. The warm embrace of a loving mother is used to represent the kind of comfort and love God has for us. A loving mother comforts like no other; God will bring that kind of comfort to his people who love him even in the worst kind of opposition they can fathom. 

No matter how far a child strays, or the pain they cause you, they are still your child. Similarly, no matter how far we stray, God longs for us to be close to him. There is no one beyond the reach of God’s love and mercy. 

Just as we tenderly love our children and want the best for them, so does God for us. He loves us with an everlasting love, and longs to be in relationship with us.
