Behold: The PromiseExemplo
Strength Over Fear
Isaiah 35:3-4 NIV
Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees that give way;
say to those with fearful hearts,
“Be strong, do not fear; your God will come,
he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
he will come to save you.”
Israel had been in exile for decades, and their bondage had sapped their spirit and strength. Many were understandably in a place of fear rather than faith for their future. Into this reality however, God’s prophet brings a special charge to God’s people: “Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, Be Strong, do not fear, your God will come”.
I think we can all relate with the way fear causes us to become weak and retreat from a place of faith. Whether it’s fear of the unknown, fear of inadequacy, fear of others’ opinions or other fears, we all face this intimidating force. I remember feeling this in the months before our interstate move from Sydney to Darwin, where we would lead and pastor. Although sensing God’s call, I grappled with many fears including disappointing family by taking the grandchildren so far away, leaving secure incomes, adapting to a new climate and remote city, as well as a general fear of inadequacy - did I have the courage to do this?
These verses give us a powerful key to gaining strength - to help and uplift one another! The charge comes to God’s people as a community to encourage those feeling weak and afraid by declaring and reminding them of the promises of God’s faithfulness.
God’s intention is that we would carry one another and continually lift each other’s focus back to the greater truth of God’s presence with us. This is the greatest antidote to fear and where true strength comes from. I know in my life, the encouraging voices of Godly friends and family that have believed in me and spoken faith have been so timely and pivotal in giving me the courage to walk into all God has called me to. Let’s do this journey together and strengthen one another all the way!
Behold - Fear Not!
Are you feeling weak and afraid? Don’t suffer alone. Lean in to Godly relationships that will speak life and point you to Jesus.
Do you notice fearful people around you? Be that voice of assurance and faith to them, helping steady them with the assurance of God’s presence. “Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you,Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

The word “BEHOLD” in Hebrew simply means interjection (an exclamation, an interruption). It is an unapologetic shout, saying, “LOOK HERE! SEE NOW! The promise is coming to pass!”. Our desire is to stir up faith in women that they would remember the promise, or see the new promise, and perceive it coming to pass. Written by Ps Megan Halvorsen.
