How Can I Best Lead My FamilyExemplo
Making Decisions Together
The first step before making a decision is to clarify the decision we need to make. Before moving forward, we need to make sure we have a clear idea about the decision we are making. Making decisions in a marriage is something that requires a lot of talking, thinking, and sharing of thoughts and ideas. It should not be a one-person process. Before making a final decision, husbands should be open to talking it through and listening to their wives’ points of view.
When it comes to decision-making, my wife and I talk and reason through it together. She gives me her viewpoint, I give her mine, and most of the time we end up on the same page. We are able to walk forward together, without any disagreement.
Of course, even after years of marriage, every couple can have disagreements. Sometimes it is not possible to come to an agreement or see eye-to-eye on something. This is where the husband is to take the lead in a godly manner, loving and caring for his wife, putting her life before his, and in prayer. If, after looking at the Word of God there is not a clear command on the matter, then it is a matter of judgement, and the husband should lead in making a wise decision. He should always have his wife’s best interests in mind, and proceed with a humble heart and spirit. The wife should follow her husband’s lead, trusting that God is leading him as the head of the family.
What is most important, in any decision we must make together, is to make sure that whatever we agree on answers yes to the following question: Does the decision we are making glorify God? If the answer is a firm yes, we can be sure we are on the right path.
Husbands and wives, I want to encourage you to make decisions together, to talk things through, to reason together, and to always take each other’s point of view into consideration, loving each other and honoring each other, as the Bible instructs us to do.
