Dive Deeper Into the Book of Jonah

Dia 8 de 10

Jonah was offended when God did not judge Nineveh and make them pay for their wickedness. He believed God’s goodness should be reserved for His special people, the Israelites. In Jonah’s view, the enemies of Israel did not deserve God’s compassion.

We, too, can sometimes judge God’s ways and intentions. We can become angry, confused, or disappointed when things don’t turn out the way we hoped. Sometimes, we find God’s plans unfair since we think we deserve better. We forget that our vision is only human and that our perspective is narrow.

But God sees the big picture since He’s all-knowing. Though we may not understand His ways, we can trust God’s point of view. We can trust in His wisdom since He is exceedingly good and has our best interests in mind.

When faced with painful circumstances or unfair situations, we may feel discouraged and angry. But we can go to God with our doubts and questions and place them at His feet. We can rest in the knowledge that God is sovereign and in control of our lives.

Let’s cast our worries on Him and have confidence that He is working on our behalf, for our good and His glory.

Reflection

What unfair or unjust situation in your life or in your community makes you angry or sad? How can you surrender your concerns to God today?

In which area of your life do you see God’s sovereign goodness at work?

Action

Write down a list of three to five verses from the Bible that remind you that God’s ways are wise, good, and just.
