Day 6
One Conversation at a Time
John 4:1-42
When Jesus sat down at a well in Samaria, no one was there except one woman who probably didn’t want to see anyone. Jesus was there, but she knew he wouldn’t talk to her. He was a man. She was a woman. He was a Jew. She was a Samaritan. There was every reason not to talk to her, but even still, Jesus asked her a question. Speaking to her was an indication of acceptance, and acceptance is the first step toward influence. Questions show we value the other person and believe they’re worth knowing. Every question deepens the relationship and paves the way for more intentional conversations.
This surprised woman asked Jesus why he was willing to talk to her, and Jesus sensed this was the moment to take the conversation from superficial to spiritual.
Soon Jesus moved the conversation from the spiritual to the personal. When Jesus made it personal, the Samaritan woman tried to sidetrack the conversation. She tried to draw Jesus into a debate. Jesus wasn’t surprised by this, instead, he met her where she was. One unexpected conversation changed this woman’s entire life. Those are the kind of conversations God wants us to have. Want to live a life of impact? Start planning for some unexpected conversations.
Today, start a conversation with someone by asking a question that shows you value their life and see where God leads.
