21 Days to Finding Eternal Purpose in Your Daily WorkExemplo
Today’s passage shows yet another way our work matters: God “uses us” and our work “to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him,” making others long for the goodness ultimately found in God and his kingdom.
What does this look like practically? It looks like going the extra mile for customers—especially difficult ones—as a means of making grace winsome. Or being the person in the office who is unhurried enough to take a genuine interest in the lives of your co-workers. Or working in an exceptional way that bears witness to the fact the Creator God is working through you.
This way of working puts off the scent of the kingdom, and it can even lead people to long to meet our king. Let me offer an analogy to help illustrate this truth.
Recently, my wife and I discussed how we wanted to travel to San Diego because of the city’s gorgeous beaches, world-class zoo, and friendly people. Believe it or not, the mayor of San Diego never once came up in our conversation! We don’t travel because we’re interested in the character or the policies of the person who rules a particular city. We’re attracted by what that person’s policies produce.
What if the same is true of the kingdom of God? What if one of the primary ways God brings people to faith in him is by giving them tastes of grace, love, excellence, and truth?
That is what the Spirit can do through your work, believer. Work in a way that spreads the aroma of Christ today!
