Jesus Is the Ultimate Prophet, Priest and KingExemplo
Jesus fulfilled His task as a Priest
“He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for His own sins and then for those of the people, since He did this once for all when He offered up Himself.” (Hebrews 7:27)
Priest were mediators between humans and God. They prayed and offered sacrifices on behalf of the people. But as we saw yesterday, they had to do so daily, without finding a final solution for the problem of sin. Jesus was a completely different priest. He offered up Himself! That’s why the Bible also calls Him “the Lamb of God” — a perfect Lamb who was sacrificed. And since He was absolutely sinless, He did not need to die for His own sins, but for those of humanity.
The blood of thousands of animals could not really wash away the sins of people. They were a symbol, pointing forward to Jesus. His death sufficed, “once for all”, to reconcile humanity with God.
The question may pop up why Jesus was willing to do this. Being God the Son, why would He be ready to become human, to suffer and die? The only answer is: because of His endless love. God loves the world so much that He gave His Son — that He gave Himself.
The all-important question is whether you accept Jesus’ death on your behalf. His sacrifice does not ‘automatically’ clean all humanity from sin. Only if you believe in Him as your Savior and Lord, are your sins forgiven. Do you believe?
