Ears Tuned Only to God’s Opinion

God sees when we’re doing everything we can to hear and obey Him. He also knows when others voice a negative opinion that could easily hinder our progress.

Have you ever stopped doing something God asked you to do because of someone else’s negative opinion about it? I have. The person’s words carried so much weight in my soul that it stopped my progress.

Were you swayed to the contrary by that person’s opinion? In my case, yes, I was.

Was it God’s will that you continue? For me, it was.

We have to guard our hearts and our minds to hear and receive what God wants to say to us, not the opinions of the people around us — and certainly not our own opinions based on comparing ourselves to others!

We talked before about the danger of comparing yourself to others. If you let yourself go down that destructive road, you’re going to become either prideful or sad. There’s always going to be either someone “better” than you or someone “worse” than you, and to allow either opinion to be the gauge that determines how you see yourself is to set yourself up for failure.

You have a unique, God-ordained path and plan for your life. The Holy Spirit will guide you according to that plan as you keep moving forward based on His direction. You can trust Him to defend you if needed. Your part is just to obey what He is asking you to do.

Journal Prompt

Sometimes negative opinions cause us to stop in the middle of what God has called us to do. Pray and ask the Lord if there is any calling on your life that you have put on pause because of the opinions of others. Spend some time journaling about what He speaks to you.

Memory Verse

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. — Hebrews 13:5
