Jesus Loves Me: Experiencing God’s Heart for Kids Exemplo
Immeasurable Worth
To Jesus, children hold incredible worth. In fact, this passage in Luke states that when we welcome a child, we welcome Jesus too.
It’s easy for us to classify children as “less than.” But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Jesus crushes that idea when he makes his profound statement, “For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest” (Luke 9:48, NIV).
We were all fashioned in God’s image with immeasurable worth. God designed each of us, from the youngest to the oldest, after his image. What gives us more dignity than that? Perhaps that is why Jesus detested the competition the disciples were having about who was the greatest. Jesus values the person, not their status.
Do we see the child eating out of the trash and the multimillionaire businessman as God sees them? Do we lift one high on a pedestal and push one down to minimal value? Or do we view them through the eyes of God?
When we view those who are often called “the least of these” through God’s eyes, we begin to truly see their worth. And when we see their worth, we’ll want to ensure they’re happy and whole. We’ll want to serve them!
That’s what Jesus wants us to do too. In fact, Jesus says that whatever we do for the least among us, we do for him (Matthew 25:40).
Pray and ask God to help you see children through his eyes. Pray that he would open your eyes to the needs of children, including those living in poverty. He may call you to help children in your community or around the world.
Ready to care for the least of these? See children who need help now.
