How to Know the Holy Spirit

Dia 3 de 5

Like the lame man in Acts 3, some people rely too heavily on others to ensure a relationship with God. They fail to attend church because they need someone to constantly coax them to go. Some have a hidden agenda in serving God or by going to church, but that causes a person to burn out and walk away from God. The crippled man was carried to the temple gate to beg for alms, not to worship. He had the alternative motive to serve himself.

Without a relationship with the Holy Spirit, we tend to have a hard time reigning over our minds and thoughts. We become distracted and disillusioned. Instead of our own legs carrying us, we rely on a friend to fully support us. In like manner, instead of the Holy Spirit leading, people often try to direct their own path and do not walk in Him.

The prayer life you cultivate and the requests you make to God reflect a lot on your relationship with Him. After the lame man was healed by Peter, he realized the missing component in his life. The real need in our lives isn't money or sole support found in someone else, but rather the activation of the Holy Spirit's power working in us.

Today's Challenge

Begin to cultivate and grow your relationship with Holy Spirit no matter what your peers, spouse, or friends do. Today, acquire some quiet time where you can spend time with God while praying and reading your Bible. It doesn't have to be long, but it will take daily consistency and habit in order to know the Holy Spirit on deeper levels. Romans 12 tells us that our transformation comes by renewing our minds to the Word of God. It will take practice but it is attainable. Don't rely on others to work out your own salvation: pick up your own cross and follow Christ.

Unfortunately, many people keep the Holy Spirit distant and are afraid of His power. As Christians, we have the privilege to access the Holy Spirit when we accept Jesus into our lives.
