Will you choose hope in God?

Hope. A nebulous word, and concept we find hard to nail down, yet we use it often.

“I hope you have a good day.”

“I hope I don’t get sick.”

“I hope my marriage works out.”

"I hope I don’t ruin my kids.”

“I hope that business deal goes through.”

“I hope he loves me.”

“I hope I get a raise.”

Our hope gets defined by what we want: health, prosperity, a good marriage. An easy life where nothing goes wrong and everything goes our way. We don’t live a life of ease, though. Some of us have some really difficult circumstances to deal with daily. Like making a wish and blowing out our candles, we know it probably won’t happen and we aren’t naive kids anymore. Life is difficult.

Our hope in the way things will work out, or hope in our spouse or our children, or hope in our health or wealth are dashed against the hard situations of life. And we are left with disappointment and disillusionment.

The hope of the Bible isn’t a wish. It’s a confident hope placed in something solid, firm and unchanging. When we place our hope in God we can rest knowing that He has gone before us, and is making a way, even when there seems to be no way. Our God, who is always good, will never leave us or fail us. We don’t have to have it all figured out, because He does. He only asks us to trust Him.

Where is your hope? Is it in Him?

Choose hope in God.Hope in anything else will disappoint.

Choices

Life is a series of choices, each determining the trajectory it will take. Will we choose allowing our hearts to be changed by God's Word which leads to life? Or will we default to our human nature, a passive choice leading to death?
