Love Is LoveExemplo
Our King is worth it!
Twice a year, I have the privilege of dialoguing with some local teenagers about my little book Gay & God. While I try to be biblical, compassionate, and humble, some of those students end up feeling that the Bible’s teaching about homosexuality is unfair. They realize what Jesus is asking them to give up is substantial.
Recently, however, during one of these Q&A sessions, a parable popped into my head. “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field” (Matthew 13:44). If you are stuck on biblical sexuality, ponder these words from our Savior.
According to Jesus, being with the King of heaven is a priceless treasure. When you find it, that is, when you see Jesus with all his unfailing love and unmatchable glory, you will give up anything to be with him. And what will you feel in that moment when you give up everything that used to make you happy? Joy.
Submitting your sexual desires to King Jesus feels like a burden . . . until you think less about your desires and more about your King. Jesus and the eternal life he offers you is a billion times better than anything else in the universe. So if you are wrestling with the fairness of biblical sexuality, fix your eyes on Jesus and discover the joy of the gospel. Jesus is worthy, even of this. Our King is worth it!
