Unleash The Five Fold Spiritual GiftsExemplo
“Christ as Apostle”
Have you ever heard someone say, “When I grow up, I want to be an Apostle?”
Probably not. In fact, most people wouldn’t know what an apostle is. The word comes from apostolos, which in Greek means “a messenger, one sent forth.”
To understand this gift, we should know and relate to Christ as a missionary. We typically understand a missionary as one who goes into some far away land to bring people to Christ through sharing of the Word.
In that sense, Christ is the ultimate missionary.
But Christ continues to be an apostle to us even if he isn’t traveling to a faraway land. By entering new parts of our life, reaching us in new, often unexpected ways, he acts as an apostle.
Sometimes we forget this aspect of Christ. Yet, his whole life expressed the following attributes of an apostle:
- Forge new territory
- Face resistance
- Forgo safety and comfort
- Focus on a purpose
- Flexibly adjust to place and person
Questions:
What did Jesus say and what did he do to to reach you with his word and good news as a “missionary”?
What are ways he continues to act as a “sent one” into different parts of your life that you may have overlooked or ignored?
