Shared Vision
A shared vision is one of the most fundamental things to look for in a future spouse. The Bible teaches us the importance of sharing a common purpose or vision if we are to walk in the same direction successfully. The worst tragedy is having no vision for one's life because we end up drifting through life and failing to maximize our potential.
The Bible teaches us that before we were born, God already had a vision and purpose for our lives. Consequently, you must seek to understand God’s vision and purpose for you. Once you find that vision, it sets parameters for your life and can determine where you will go, what you will do, and even who you will marry. Marrying someone who does not share the same vision or whose vision doesn't complement yours can create tension in some cases. Each person will want to do their own thing, and the relationship will go nowhere. You may end up harbouring resentment and regret marrying that person because you never truly become who you knew you were destined to be.
I often had to walk away from relationships because we were going in entirely different directions even though we shared the same Christian faith. It wasn't easy, but in hindsight, understanding my purpose and vision allowed me to make difficult decisions for everyone involved.
To make the most of your life, seek God for His vision for your life. Once you are clear about it, you will be in a better position to choose a life partner with whom you can share a common vision and be in agreement as you both fulfil God’s call upon your lives.
