Splendor Of The KingExemplo
"A Different Plan"
Yesterday we looked at how Jesus announced his ministry from the words of Isaiah 61, about bringing good news to the poor. Good news to people like Sambo, the former Khmer Rouge child soldier who turned to alcohol to deal with his past.
The words of Isaiah 61 show a clear intention of God for those living in poverty to find new hope. They are to become, he declares, oaks of righteousness. His plan is for people to flourish, not just survive.
An oak tree is one of the grandest of all trees. It’s symbolizes protection, strength, and endurance. It protects and is a picture of stability; it has strong roots and is a focal point within its environment.
God wants those living in poverty, those who are brokenhearted, and those that mourn to be oaks of righteousness. Releasing Sambo from the bondage of alcoholism or simply providing him enough to get by on is not enough.
The hope of Christ to a hurting world is meant to lead people into the fullness of Jesus. Pray that God would help you bring human flourishing into the places he has uniquely called you.
