Confidence in Our LordExemplo
The Lord is My Helper!
By Pastor Ed Fredrich
The Letter to the Hebrews was written for our learning. The title Hebrews refers to the original recipients who seem to have been Jewish members of the church. The group needed to see Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy of the Messiah.
Throughout the letter, the author uses Old Testament references to show how Jesus fulfilled them. Chapter 13 is the closing of the letter encouraging the reader to live to please God.
Like the Christians who lived in earlier ages, we face all types of opposition. The devil has not let up on his opposition to God and his people. The first words uttered by the serpent recorded in Genesis 3 hasn’t changed. He still says, “Has God really said?”
Consider the long list he brings into question: creation, the sanctity of marriage, or even our purpose. The devil is always trying to get us to doubt and question God. His goal is to separate us from God. His messages intended to deceive are a daily occurrence.
Is it possible to have confidence?
The devil has an automatic ally in us, our sinful nature. We can be tempted to give up. God has supplied us with his Word. We continue to strengthen our faith through his Word and the Holy Spirit created in our faith.
We say with confidence. The Lord is my helper!
Remember the testimony he has given us in his Word. He will never leave us or forsake us. Not only is it possible for us to find confidence but with God’s grace we can go forward and declare: “I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the confidence you have given us in the Word. The Holy Spirit has led us to see you as our Creator and our Savior. Your Word assures us of your presence. Help us always to boldly declare: “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?” Amen.

Confidence in the Lord is something we all can have. At times, it can be easier said than done. When we pray regularly, it can help us be more confident as we understand what a conversation with God looks like. Prayer keeps us connected to the Savior and helps us to confidently honor and glorify our Lord. This three-day devotion focuses on how we can have confidence in our Lord.
